Gay Berkshire
A voluntary group that includes representatives from the Police and other agencies to work towards making local communities in Berkshire safer for bisexual, gay, lesbian and trans-gendered people.
Gay
Berkshire was officially established in January
2008, replacing The Berkshire Anti-Homophobia Group
(BAHG) which was establish in March 1998 by members of the
local bisexual, gay and lesbian community.
Gay
Berkshire is managed by a committee which is made up of
representatives from the local LGBT community, Thames Valley Police
and members of other local support groups.
Gay Berkshires
Aims:
- Run and promote campaigns for the
LGBT community
- Provide support to local LGBT
groups
- Provide a voice and setting for the
LGBT community to hold local authorities and statutory bodies
accountable for responding to homophobic
incidences
- Contribute to public safety by
encouraging victims of Homophobic incidents to report them and
helping to provide and promote anonymous reporting
systems
- Provide support and help promote
groups that work with LGBT young
people
- To challenge perceptions of the LGBT
community
- To work towards community cohesion by
being involved in local events
- Provide or assist in training to
local organisations
